Hard work, Genius, Vision, Idea or just plain luck are reasons often attributed for a business's to succeed. But why do all business's having equally good ideas, visions and hardworking teams no succeed ? There is more to success than just these macro qualities for a business.
With technology allowing the world to be connected in this age the time an idea remains unique has reduced drastically. So what how do you differentiate from your competitors or provide them reason for loyalty. This is where the grass root qualities or micro qualities you inculcate in your business/employees comes in. I am just going to touch upon some in this series titled "Keys to Success". In this part I am going to throw light on attention to detail.
'Attention to Detail' can be broadly defined as achieving thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task through concern for all the areas involved. This can be modified based on your business model or the departments in which you need to inculcate this quality.
Instilling attention to detail throughout your company will prove especially important when the business begins to gain ground. Employees across the business should be focusing on getting it right all day, every day."
In one of my business's where we run knowledge transfer platform for the worldwide digital printing industry we frequently organise International conferences. Attention to Detail is very important for us to make the delegates and speakers feel comfortable. From our experience we know that the way the chairs are placed for the delegates, the food that is served, the environment ... the vendors might think we are micro-managing but this gives us the edge from our competition the 'Attention to Detail'.
Let us look at another aspect, once a business scales up the first think which is overlooked is attention to detail. The bottom line becomes more important and we tend to forget that the attention to detail we had help us build the business. What good companies do is pay attention to the little things in a way that responds to the emotional needs of customers. The little things matter a lot. Overlook on the grass root qualities and you start the path to your own downside.Your need to be obsessive about the details says Micheal Levine.
